After 35-years the annual Zellwood Sweet Corn Festival has been canceled, citing the recession and a cornicopia of other problems which seemed to pop out of nowhere.
Zellwood residents were a-maized to hear the annoucement, many pausing in their daily lives to take stalk in the festival’s 35-year history, which began in 1974 with a fritter of husky farmers who cobbled together to celebrate the annual harvest.
“Aw, shucks!” said festival organizer Faye Odom. “If anyone knows how we can afford to put on the festival this year without getting creamed, we’re all ears.”
