Remember good ole Oily Taints, er, ORLY TAITZ? She’s the attorney/dentist/real estate agent that has been the most visible face of the anti-Obama “Birthers”, who believe that Obama is not a natural U.S. citizen and therefore not legally allowed to be the President. I first wrote about her in August, 2009 in a post called “Who is Orly Taitz?”
It appears she’s been feeling the heat because she is under “increasing legal attack in the United States from groups and individuals opposed to her legal actions challenging the Constitutional qualifications of Barrack Hussein Obama to hold the office of President of the United States.”
Where does she turn? The United Nations, of course, where she has appealed for “urgent action under the mandate for human rights defenders.” Taitz claims she has been the victim of death threats, vandalism, false complaints, and a suspected assassination attempt and that her reports to law enforcement have been ignored.
The Huffington Post is reporting President Obama issued Executive Order 13490, which bars anyone appointed by the President who has been a federally-registered lobbyist within the past two years from working on particular matters or in the specific areas in which they lobbied or from serving in agencies they had lobbied.
Not surprisingly, the reaction from the lobbying community has been filled with lobbying, with the loudest criticism coming from the Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs). The ITACs, whose roughly 400 members include at least 130 lobbyists, officials say, have taken the lead in attacking the White House policy as misguided and harmful to U.S. business interests.
“This action will severely undermine the utility of the advisory committee process,” they wrote in a letter.
“The utility of the advisory committee process” … sounds to me like a fancy way of saying nothing.
Orly Taitz is the lawyer leading the charge that Barack Obama is not a U.S. citizen and therefore isn’t legally the president. She’s been quiet for a few months but apparently has now pissed off a judge in Georgia.
“Her response…is breathtaking in its arrogance and borders on delusional. ”
“…failed to make coherent legal arguments but instead wasted the Court’s time with press conference sound bites and speeches.”
“…she continues her baseless attacks on the Court.”
Warning, what you will see in this video includes predominantly white, overweight, ignorant Americans who attended the Glenn Beck 9/12 Tea Party protest in Washington D.C. this past weekend.
To these people, Communism, Fascism and Socialism are pretty much the same thing. (6:01)
To these people, the Bible says that Barack Obama’s name means “Antichrist”. (4:51)
To these people, Obama is giving land to Czars. (7:41)
I’ve been spending a lot of time criticizing the critics of health care insurance reform lately and even dismissed a long time friend over his callous attitude towards a very sensitive topic.
Last night I found myself actually saying things like “I’m not really this liberal.” And I’m not…fiscally I’ve typically sided much more with conservatives than democrats (it’s the religious right I tend to disagree with most). I donate to the CATO institute. I’ve read everything Ayn Rand’s ever written, and even met my (now ex) wife at an Ayn Rand conference.
I welcome debate, when it’s debate…informed, reasoned…even passionate. But when debate gets drowned out by noise, lies, fear mongering and screams, I have no tolerance. I hear Palin scream “death panels” and I feel obligated to point as big of a digital finger as I can at her and scream back, “MORON!”.
But there are reasonable arguments against the proposed health care reform. Personally I’d like to see a system that greatly reduces the financial incentives for insurance and drug companies to prey on sick people. I’d like a system that can’t exclude anyone and doesn’t drop you in the event a serious illness. Basically I want a system like our roads, our fire departments, or our public parks: safe, efficient, affordable and always there. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like that’s what we’re getting.
According to Bob Herbert, “With the public pretty well confused about what is going on, we’re headed — at best — toward changes that will result in a lot more people getting covered, but that will not control exploding health care costs and will leave industry leaders feeling like they’vehit the jackpot.”
