Evangelical Christians raising cash to protest Glenn Beck
post entry title background

I never thought I’d have the Evangelical Christians helping fight against Glenn Beck, but it appears so.

“Glenn Beck has gone too far!” says the website of the New Evangelical Partnership. Based on my research of the group, they’re a new partnership, predominately evangelical in nature. The website has the words “Nuclear Disarmament”, “prison reform”, “Muslim-Christian Dialogue” and “creation care initiatives” emblazoned at the top.

I’m not sure what creation care initiatives are, but I do know what’s got them all riled up…something Beck said about “social justice”…

“I beg you, look for the words social justice or economic justice on your church web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, the idea, hang on, am I advising people to leave their church… yes!… If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish.”

I haven’t looked through their whole website, but I gather from their reaction that you might find these words a few times.

Their plan to take down Glenn Beck? Of course….raise $5000 to produce a YouTube video.

That’ll show him.

9/11 Every Single Month (but only if you’re under 65)
post entry title background

A new report estimates that currently 68 adults under age 65 die every day because they don’t have adequate health insurance coverage.

That’s over 2000 Americans every month, almost as many as were killed on 9/11.

9/11 is happening every month.

(but only if you’re under 65)

Because those over 65 qualify for our wildly popular single-payer socialized-medicine program, Medicare.

Sure, you can challenge the numbers, but let’s say it’s greatly exaggerated. What if it’s half that?

What if it’s only a quarter?

Hell, what if only ONE American under the age of 65 dies each month from lack of health insurance? Is that acceptable?

NO FUCKING WAY.

I encourage you to share this with your friends, neighbors, followers, parents, uncles, aunts, pundits, naysayers, doom-and-gloomers, eternal optimists, Senators and Representatives.

Orly Taitz Appeals to United Nations for Protection
post entry title background

Remember good ole Oily Taints, er, ORLY TAITZ?  She’s the attorney/dentist/real estate agent that has been the most visible face of the anti-Obama “Birthers”, who believe that Obama is not a natural U.S. citizen and therefore not legally allowed to be the President.  I first wrote about her in August, 2009 in a post called “Who is Orly Taitz?

It appears she’s been feeling the heat because she is under “increasing legal attack in the United States from groups and individuals opposed to her legal actions challenging the Constitutional qualifications of Barrack Hussein Obama to hold the office of President of the United States.”

Perhaps some of the heat came from the Georgia Judge who fined Orly Taitz $20,000 in October for, among other things, “baseless attacks on the Court.”

Where does she turn?  The United Nations, of course, where she has appealed for “urgent action under the mandate for human rights defenders.”  Taitz claims she has been the victim of death threats, vandalism, false complaints, and a suspected assassination attempt and that her reports to law enforcement have been ignored.

Could it be because Orly Taitz is the antichrist?

Is Obama’s Keynesian Gamble Paying Off?
post entry title background

About a year ago I wrote a post called “Keynesian Economics is like Prescribing Crack for Coke Addicts“.  Obama’s $700 billion Stimulus package had just been signed, with pretty much all of the Republicans voting against it.

At the time, I really didn’t know if it would work.  Keynes’ economic theories had never been fully tested in this type of a crisis scenario…and we were certainly in one.  So here we are a year later….did it work?

First of all, a bit of a clarification:  The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by Barack Obama is “the stimulus.”  This is the money that went to fund road projects and pay firemen.  It’s been called “the stimulus package” or “The recovery act”, and every Republican (except 3) voted AGAINST it.  The Recovery Act contained the following provisions:

  1. Financial assistance to states that were about to fire scores of workers, from firefighters to police officers to teachers, as well as an extension of unemployment benefits and generous COBRA health insurance subsidies.
  2. Spending on new infrastructure and manufacturing: those newly smoothed roads and highways on your commute to work, along with spending on transit and green energy technology.
  3. The largest middle class tax cut in American history — $288 billion in tax relief which, I might add, every Republican (save for three) voted against.

Unfortunately many Americans confuse the stimulus package with “the bailout”.  TARP.  The $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program signed by George W. Bush.   Hundreds of banks received money from this program…a few have repaid…many have not.

A recent CNN poll showed that 54% of Americans think the stimulus has helped bankers and investors.  Obama is losing the PR battle, because Americans think that the Stimulus and the Bailout are the same:  They’re Not.   While there is much to complain about TARP, the Recovery Act appears to be working.   Wall Street seems to think so:

Okay…but that’s just Wall Street…what about jobs?

Looks  pretty good there too.   Okay..but these numbers might be fudged.  How about GDP?  That’s the real pulse of the economy, right?

So does this mean that Keynes is vindicated?   That supply-side economics is dead?   That Adam Smith’s invisible hand has vanished?

I don’t know the answer…I’m just a piano player.  But I do know that it looks like we may have dodged a very big bullet…for now.  For more on this, visit:  Bob Cesca: Happy Anniversary, Recovery Act.

Alan Grayson is my new hero
post entry title background

Alan Grayson has been kicking ass lately…most recently when he said Dick Cheney needs to STFU.

One of the “conservative right’s” loudest crusades has been their effort to undermine the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN), following the release of a series of videos showing ACORN employees behaving inappropriately (something Haliburton employees never do).

Hypocritical “conservatives” in Congress have done everything possible to strip ACORN of all federal funding.  Many legal experts have warned that these measures may be unconstitutional because lawmakers cannot punish a group or individual without a trial.   They even have a term for it…”bills of attainder“:

Bills of attainder, ex post facto laws, and laws impairing the obligations of contracts, are contrary to the first principles of the social compact, and to every principle of sound legislation. – James Madison

So here’s 5 minutes during a hearing of the Science and Technology committee where Alan Grayson gives Rep. Paul Broun from Georgia a beat down about the constitutionality of “bills of attainder”.

And now a court ruling supporting Grayson:

December 12, 2009:  A federal judge today issued an injunction preventing the implementation of a congressional ban on funding for ACORN. Judge Nina Gershon concluded that the ban amounted to a “bill of attainder” that unfairly singled out ACORN

Obama Boots Lobbyists
post entry title background

The Huffington Post is reporting President Obama issued Executive Order 13490, which bars anyone appointed by the President who has been a federally-registered lobbyist within the past two years from working on particular matters or in the specific areas in which they lobbied or from serving in agencies they had lobbied.

Not surprisingly, the reaction from the lobbying community has been filled with lobbying, with the loudest criticism coming from the Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs).   The ITACs, whose roughly 400 members include at least 130 lobbyists, officials say, have taken the lead in attacking the White House policy as misguided and harmful to U.S. business interests.

“This action will severely undermine the utility of the advisory committee process,” they wrote in a letter.

“The utility of the advisory committee process” … sounds to me like a fancy way of saying nothing.
